In August 2011, the investment committee provided insight through one of our Market Intelligence articles (see below for link to article) on investing internationally. Throughout the article, there was discussion of the opportunities and powerful reasoning to suggest an international focus when putting capital to work. Over the past three and five year periods, the international markets have considerably outperformed the Canadian market; and as a result, investors who took advantage of this notion benefited in the face of depressed commodity prices, a large correction in the energy sector, and a substantially weakened Canadian dollar. While past results do not necessarily imply future performance, at CWB McLean & Partners we continue to stress the importance of proper geographic and sector diversification as the basis for a solid investment framework to minimize risk while achieving above average long-term results.
